Christmas Entertaining and Tablescape

My favorite time of year calls for a special yet simple table scape! I love combining dishes and textures to create a beautiful setting for meaningful conversation and moments to cherish. Read on to see more details and what I do to make the holidays extra special.

HOLIDAY TABLESCAPE

For this year I went with more of a winter vibe then a Christmas one. I’m not normally one to decorate all our for Christmas. I prefer simple but I do love beautiful textures and muted colors along with some natural elements

For the plates I layered a gold charger with a kraft paper doillie on top. Yes a doillie. I’m obsessed with these kraft paper ones and they are perfect for adding texture to a tablescape. ( for Thanksgiving I layered them down the middle of my table vs at each individual place setting)

I used a simple white plate followed by heirloom China which was passed town from Jared’s grandmother to me. I love the blue pattern and gold tones. It adds character without being too fussy and I chose just the salad plate from the set as opposed to the dinner late which would have been too busy.

A linen napkin ( these are a must! They instantly make everything feel more put together. The only thing I bought new are the napkin rings! I found these at target and they are the hearth and hand collection. to be so helpful and cute so I got them!

Last but not lease I love the look of milk glass especially for this time of year. I have glasses but If you have plates or bowels you can incorporate those too.

Greenery and more greenery! It almost feels like a greenhosue when you look at some of the images and I love it. I cut branches from around our homestead and placed them in large vases to give some height on the sides of the mirror.

I also added branches to the birdcage chandeliers! Love the look of things hanging from above.

For this table I wanted a super simple and organic feel so I did a natural color muslin fabric down the middle of the table. It was still a bit wrinkled and frayed on the edges and I left it that way. Made it feel more natural and pretty down the table.

One way to add subtle color is to add fresh fruit to your table such as apples or pomegranates. Something to add color but in a more natural way. I used apples here and also had a beautiful apple tart to set on the table. Stay tuned for that recipe.

My top 5 ways to decorate a table for the holidays

I am aware the kitty on the table is not appropriate behavior but look how cute Georgia is! Below are my top 5 tips when decorating a table.

  1. Lots of candlelight- you can never go wrong with this. I love using vintage brass candlesticks.

  2. Fresh greenery

  3. Mix metals and textures. Such as wood, mercury glass, gold chargers, etc.

  4. Add in vintage pieces. In this case I added the china and also flatware passed down to me from Jared’s grandma. The candlesticks are also antiques.

  5. Use real napkins.

I hope you have loved this look and can recreate your own version at home! See below for links to most of the items in this post. Always stay true to what feels right and home to you. Don’t follow a trend just because.

Ways to spend time together as a family

  1. Decorate together. Even Little Ava who is a year and a half loves “ helping” me and doing everything by my side.

  2. Cook a special meal together. Maybe on Christmas Eve cook breakfast for dinner!

  3. Cookie baking night! This is something I do every year with my parents and I can’t wait for Little Ava to join in.

  4. Do a craft together. This year I plan on starting a new tradition with Ava. Each year around this time we will decorate a little bird house to put around our property. As she grows older she can see them when we go on walks and remember the special times we shared making it tougher.

  5. Do something for others. Cook a meal, gift a gift, volunteer your time. It’s the time of year when others need us most.
