How To Make Valentine's Day Extra Special - Tablescape, Gifts & Recipe Ideas!

"There is only one happiness in life: To love and be loved" - George Sand

These words carry so much meaning for me. We can have all the things in the world, the best car, home, clothes, or dream job, and try to find happiness this way.

But, these things only bring joy for a short period of time. Whereas to be able to love and be loved by God, our family, and friends, joy is never-ending.

And a holiday like Valentine's day reminds me of this love

Although it has been overrated, over-commercialized, and monetized over the years, it is a day that forces us to acknowledge the ones we love most in our life.

That's why I choose to celebrate Valentine's day but in a simple, humble way— making the day memorable with a beautifully decorated table for a special sit-down dinner, preparing some delicious treats, or gifting a loved one with a small, thoughtful gift.

These are some of my favorite DIY gifts:

VALENTINE'S DAY TABLESCAPE

I wanted to keep it simple for this year's tablescape, with a touch of romance.

I went for a romantic, soft shabby chic look, with pastel colors, whites, and earthy tones. Using only a few decor items such as flowers, candles, and DIY placemats, keep this tablescape effortless, yet pretty.

FLOWERS

For me, a table is incomplete without a few flowers, greenery, or foliage. Especially for Valentine's Day! And roses are, of course, the classic symbol of love!

Using mauve, light peach, and cream roses create a soft and calming ambiance, setting the tone for the overall look.

Place them in a cute white vase to make the colors pop, and sprinkle a few petals around to create a fun visual element and texture.

I will always try to use fresh flowers, but if it's not possible, don't be afraid to use good quality faux flowers!

CANDLES

Another element I almost always include in my tablescape is candles.

What is it about candles that instantly creates a magical feeling?! It must be the glistening flame capturing our thoughts!

It has been proven that the soft illumination helps us calm down and relax. And when the candles are scented, it compliments the mood even more and stimulates the part of your brain connected to memory and mood.

Mix different sizes and heights of candles like these tealights and taper candles to create visual interest and an elegant touch.

Use scented candles that remind you and your loved one of a special memory shared or which just makes you feel good and fuzzy! I absolutely LOVE Antique Candle Co candles. They have the best scents and are made from non-toxic ingredients.

PLACEMATS

Adding something personal or homemade to a tablescape notches up the personalized, intimate feeling.

That's why I decided this year to include Ava in making these fun DIY placemats. She is, after all, a BIG love of ours, and I wanted her to feel special.

They are so cute, fun, cheap, and easy to make! And you could definitely use them again for another themed occasion such as a birthday or bridal shower.

HERE'S how to make them!

DISHES & CUTLERY

I chose to use my white glasses and cream plates to keep the theme light and airy.

And my antique silverware for a slight touch of elegance and romance. Tying them together with twine, placed on my cream napkins, finishes it beautifully.

Add some quirkiness and keep it light-hearted by tying beautiful ribbons around the glass stems and placing them on heart-shaped doilies.
