DIY Natural Bath Bombs - All the Goodness Without the bad stuff

One of my favorite pastime activities is relaxing in a nice warm bath. Not that I get to do it that often, but when I do, I make sure to treat myself! I like using a bath bomb and they definitely make a bath feel more luxurious and fun.

The only thing I dislike about these store-bought bath bombs is that they contain too many "extras" that I find are too harsh on the skin and which I don’t want to use for me and my family.

So I’ve started making my own! I know exactly what is in them and they are a lot less expensive as well.

Keep reading to see how I make them and how I use

Ball® home canning jars to store them in and gift them as well!

NATURAL BATH BOMB BENEFITS

You may have noticed that the ingredients I choose to use in my homemade bath bombs are all-natural and safe to use. They also have many benefits and healing, calming properties. See below for some of the details of the main ingredients I used.

BENEFITS OF BAKING SODA FOR THE SKIN

Baking soda is inexpensive, safe to use, and has incredible benefits for the skin.

Baking soda helps with:

  • Yeast infections. Restoring the pH balance and getting itching, burning, and swelling under control.

  • Soothes skin problems and irritations such as eczema and psoriasis.

  • Urinary tract infections by neutralizing acid in the urine, removing germs, and aid in healing.

  • Easing of sore and fatigued muscles.

  • Detoxifying the body and lymph system.

BENEFITS OF OATMEAL FOR THE SKIN

Oatmeal contains properties that help to restore and maintain a healthy skin barrier. It can benefit many skin types, from dry, sensitive, to oily skin.

Oatmeal has the following benefits:

  • It is full of proteins and vitamin E, known to moisturize the skin.

  • Treating itchy skin caused by dry skin, rash, eczema, or psoriasis.

  • Reduces harmful bacteria and skin inflammation, which could reduce body acne and other skin issues.

  • It contains saponins which act as a gentle cleanser and don't strip the skin of natural oils.

BENEFITS OF JOJOBA OIL FOR THE SKIN

Jojoba oil has long been used for its moisturizing benefit. But, not only does it moisturize the skin, but it also has other healing properties such as:

  • It contains many vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties

  • Jojoba oil is a humectant. It means that it helps to retain moisture in the skin by sealing the skin with a protective barrier

  • Jojoba also contains certain compounds called tocopherols that are forms of vitamin E, which fight free radicals and eliminate them from the body. Hence, jojoba oil helps in getting healthy and younger-looking skin

BENEFITS OF EPSOM SALT IN A BATH

Epsom salt has also been used for 100's of years to cure many ailments and ease aches, pains, and skin issues. Epsom salt breaks down into magnesium and sulfate in water.

The benefits of Epsom salt in a bath include:

  • To treat and ease symptoms of arthritis, sprains, and fibromyalgia.

  • Help with healing ingrown toenails and toe fungus and can relieve swollen feet.

  • Sooth a sunburnt skin

  • To relieve stress and anxiety. These drain magnesium from the body, so the magnesium from Epsom salt can replenish the levels and help the body produce serotonin, a mood-elevating hormone.

BENEFITS OF ROSE FOR THE SKIN

Always make sure to use 100% rose absolute. This comes from the fresh petals and works best for these recipes. Plus gives the bath bombs a nice rose scent.

Rose has the following benefits:

  • It contains anti-inflammatory properties to ease an itchy skin

  • It contains antioxidants that protect the skin cells against UV rays, chemicals, and pollutants.

  • Its antiseptic and antibacterial properties can help heal wounds and fight infection.

  • It adds a lovely scent!

BENEFITS OF CALENDULA

Calendula is used many times for the skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

Other benefits include:

  • It can relieve redness and irritation

  • It can moisturize your skin

  • It is very gentle on the skin making it great for little ones to use.

As you can see, these natural ingredients I choose to use in my DIY natural bath bombs all serve a purpose and can help with many ailments and concerns. I love how it does not only feel good, but it does good too!

Disclaimer - Friends, please remember that our bodies react differently to ingredients. If you are allergic to one of these ingredients, I advise you to omit and replace them or avoid them altogether.

Many of these ingredients' benefits have also not been scientifically backed up with numerous studies but rather by trial and testimony by users over the years. These are things I love and use.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THEM

Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Add the jojoba oil

Add the rose essence

Mix well

You will start to be able to gather it a bit in your hands.

My favorite way is to use a spray bottle to wet the mixture. This seems to do best. If you want to add the tsp instead, add 1/2 a tsp then mix well.

If using the spray bottle add about 3-4 sprays and mix well. Then add 3-4 sprays more. I don’t do more than 9.

Mix very well. You should be able to press it together and it stays a bit.

For this recipe, I used flower molds instead of actual round molds. It just looks more beautiful!

Place a few rose and calendula petals in the bottom of the molds.

Press the mixture down into the mold, fill and press until it’s very full.

Let it sit overnight for best results.

To gift place approximately 4 inside each Ball ® 8oz jar

This recipe will make about 12 total bath bombs so enough for 3 jars.
