Chocolate Orange Truffles and A Round-Up Of My Favorite Valentine's Recipes
I love how Valentine’s Day gives us the excuse to spoil our loved ones and overindulge in chocolate!
I know this is something we ought to do every day (ok, maybe not eating chocolate), but Valentine’s Day gently forces us just a little bit more. ‘Cause let’s be honest, in our chaotic world, we don’t often take the time to do something extra special for someone.
And spoiling someone does not have to mean expensive red roses or jewelry. It can simply mean making them a special yummy treat, serving breakfast in bed, or a few handpicked flowers from the garden.
Below is a super yummy chocolate and orange truffle recipe and some of my family’s favorite treats we enjoy on Valentine’s and other special occasions! You can also gift treats to friends and family as a token of your love!
chocolate orange truffles recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups dark chocolate
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp orange extract or 1/4 tsp oil
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Orange zest
directions:
Bring the coconut milk to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Once the milk begins to simmer, add the chocolate chips and turn the heat off. ( You can also do this in a heat-safe bowl)
Let it sit for a few minutes. The heat from the milk should melt the chocolate. If it does not, turn the heat on low and gently mix until it is all dissolved.
The mixture should be smooth, and the chocolate all melted.
Add the orange extract or oil ( if desired) and mix well. You could just do vanilla also.
This is your chocolate ganache.
Place in a deep dish and in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.
Now you can roll your truffle balls. Make them about 1” in size using a spoon to scoop them out.
Place the truffle into either the cocoa powder or the powdered sugar, then transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Sprinkle with orange zest. Once finished, place the truffles back in the fridge for 30 minutes.
They will then be ready to serve. You can keep them in the fridge uncovered for about 5 days.
NOTE: The heat from your hands will melt the chocolate while working, so work quickly!
